The organization began as a small out of school care program in
May 1980 and was called Oliver Centre. With a very transient
community the program quickly realized the need for more space
and care to be offered.
In 1985 the program moved from the community center to the
school, offering childcare and out of school care to approximately
60 families.
In 1999 the Oliver school went through a renovation and the
program grew by 50% and added a traditional Head Start program
as well.
Over the years as families began to learn about Oliver Centre, the
organization grew immensely. Through word of mouth the waitlist
for the program became extremely long and the organization
expanded its work to support families in the north, south and west
end of the city. The organization has provided care and education
for young children for over forty years, always making sure that it is
up to date on curriculum and best practice.
In 2022, Oliver Centre was renamed Alder Academy.
